Before starting a ski class, please educate yourself on the rules of etiquette for the ski area. Also make sure you know what to do in dangerous or emergency situations. Knowing how to ski downhill is important but knowing how to stay out of danger is even more important. |
Please consider the opinions of advanced skiers. Advanced skiers tend to have a lot of experience not only in terms of skill but in how to act in ski areas. If an advanced skier tells a beginner to use an easier slope first to build skill before taking on a more difficult slope, it would be a good idea to follow that advice.
Please follow the instructions from the ski patrol within the ski areas. In order to ensure safety and adherence to rules, please follow the instructions from the ski patrol.
When you receive help or the staff says hello, please respond in kind in acknowledgement. |
Please use formal speak to other skiers.
Often, it is hard to know the age and gender of fellow skiers due to shades, masks, and hats. Please use formal speak when addressing other skiers, just to be safe. |
Please choose a slope that is appropriate to your skill level.
Do not endanger yourself and others by using a lift for more advanced skiers just because the beginner's lift may have a long line. |
If there are a lot of skiers and boarders, please refrain from speeding. |
If you see someone in an accident, lend them a hand or contact the ski patrol. |
When a collision or an accident occurs, contact the ski patrol before finding out who was at fault and make the treatment of the injured the top priority. |
Do not use fallen skiers or boarders as slalom poles. Reduce your speed and avoid collision or stop and help. |
Just as you should avoid drunk driving, please do not engage in drunk skiing or boarding. |
Do not make a sudden stop.
Making a sudden stop near the lift area or at a steep hill can be a cause for hazardous collisions. |
When stopping next to someone in the middle of a course, go around them from behind. If you stop above someone, you run the risk of colliding with them or you could spray them with snow powder. |
Do not cut the line while waiting for the lift.
This is a basic consideration for an upstanding citizen. |
Do not step on others skis or snowboards.
Regardless of whether it was intended, apologize with a smile. |
Greet the person next to you on the lift.
Feel free to make small talk or at least a hello. |
Do not engage in illegal activities such as renting others season lift tickets. |
Refrain from smoking while in line for the lift.
This is a basic consideration for the health of non-smokers and children. |
Do not smoke while skiing or snowboarding.
Do not smoke in closed areas such as inside a cable car. If you want to smoke on the lift, please make sure it is okay with your fellow passenger. |
Please throw away cigarette butts or small trash at designated areas or trash cans.
If this is not possible, you should put them in your pocket. |
If you find a lost item in the ski area, bring it to a ski area staff. When someone loses an item, it could affect that persons mood and in turn influence others psychologically. |
Please be mindful of other skiers by taking care of rented equipment.
Rental equipment is the property of all skiers. Please take care of it as if it were your own. |
All skiers and snowboarders should be considerate of different cultures and behaviors.
We all share our love of snow and winter. Please respect and understand each other even if our equipment and ways of riding are different. |
